Villa overview

Set in the rolling countryside just outside of Noto and a few kilometres from the beach and Villa Romana del Tellaro. A stone cottage with a large panoramic terrace that overlooks the olive trees and grape vines. Dry stone walls meander around the property and lead to a swimming pool which is well furnished and partly shaded by the lovely flora that is well tended to. Inside, the property has been stylishly decorated with an eccentric mix of contemporary, antique and rustic Sicilian pieces. There is an open plan spacious living/kitchen area where the sofa is also a bed (available for one extra guest) and a bathroom with shower. The spacious double bedroom has its own bathroom with large shower which was custom built with pretty antique tiles.

The discreet owner, an artist from Venice often stays in a second property on the grounds.

The area

Situated only 6km from Noto, perhaps the most fascinating of the 18th century Baroque cities of Sicily. Not only listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO but also nicknamed the Capital of Baroque and home to the lovely ‘Infiorata’ flower festival held every May. The surrounding vineyards produce an exquisite dessert wine, ‘Moscato di Noto’. The coast can be reached in ten minutes (Eloro) and the fabulous Villa Romana del Tellaro is just 3km away.

The Vendicari nature reserve (20 minutes) is a gem for all nature lovers and offers spectacular long sandy beaches. Siracusa is only a 30 minute drive away and a visit to its ancient quarter ‘Ortigia’ and Greek ruins is a must. Also nearby is Cava Grande, a spectacular gorge and the deepest canyon in Europe: a series of rock pools, waterfalls and ancient cave-homes. The areas of pachino ( famous for cherry tomatoes) and Potopalo are very interesting places to visit. It is here that you will find the southernmost point of Sicily the little ‘Isolotto delle correnti’, with a lighthouse and where sea turtles and pelicans can still be frequently spotted on the shore.
