The Castello di Donnafugata dominates
the surrounding countryside of dry-stone walls and
carob trees and is an impressive example of 19th century
architecture. Built by the Barone of Donnafugata,
Corrado Arezzo, it was made famous by Tomasi di Lampedusa’s
novel “The Leopard”.
Modica
South of Ragusa you arrive in Modica.
Modica is one of the oldest towns in Sicily, It is
hidden in a deep valley and you won’t see it
until you’re practically in it! Full of narrow
streets and staircases, you will stop to enjoy the
panorama of houses climbing rocky canyon walls
Noto
Noto has been designated the European
capital of baroque, and can be found in the province
of Siracusa. It is a must-see tourist attraction with
its historic centre that is composed almost entirely
of baroque palaces, churches and houses. Wandering
around the narrow cobbled streets you will admire
golden-coloured stone buildings and ornate stonework.
You will also want to visit Noto Antica the older
ruined town that is only a few kilometres north of
Noto.
Ragusa
The area of Ragusa is one of the
most tranquil and authentic of the island’s
nine provinces. The main town of Ragusa is divided
into two parts separated by a narrow street that winds
down the hillside from the new town to the old. Ragusa
Ibla (the old town) was populated by the indigenous
Siculi, who were once known as “Hybla Heraea”,
and from whom the name Ibla was derived.
The beautiful basilica of St. George
built in 1738 by the famous architect “Rosario
Gigliado” can be found in Ibla and is considered
to be his masterpiece. It dominates the impressive

The beaches at Marina Di Ragusa
are only 10 kilometres from the town and are some
of the cleanest and least crowded in all of Sicily
and the water is clear and turquoise blue.
Siracusa
Siracusa is
located in the Southern most corner of Sicily and
was one of the most important cities of the western
world for over a thousand years - the thriving Metropolis
of Magna Grecia. Over 2500 years of history is concentrated
in “Ortygia”, ancient nucleus of Siracusa.
The greatest monument of theatrical architecture is
in Siracusa – the Greek Theatre.
