The town of Cefalu is one of sicily's most favourable, nestled under a huge crag, it boasts good beaches and a tangle of tempting medieval streets, churches and Baroque and Renaissance mansions. One of the prime attractions is the beautiful Duomo, whose glorious mosaics are the earliest of any in Sicily. Equally captivating is its Norman-Romanesque façade, best seen from one of the outdoor cafes in the palm-fringed Piazza del Duomo.
The 'l'Osterio Magno', 'il lavatoio Medievale' (the medieval washhouse), 'il borgo Marinaro' (the fishermen hamlet), 'il Tempio di Diana' (the Temple of Diana) and the Mandralisca museum with its rare variety of archaeological remains and art work including the 'Ritratto d'Ignoto' (The portrait of an unknown man) by Antonella da Messina are just some of the highlights worth visiting.
The Madoine mountains and the small ancient villages of Castlebuono, Gibilmanna, Petralia and Ganci are all very close and the capital Palermo is also only 60km away.
