Trapani

Trapani, the most importnat city on the west coast of the island and the most North African in atmosphere of all the island's provinces. The ancient industry of extracting salt from seawater evaporated in the salt pans is still an important part of the local economy and priduces a salt that matches the best in the world. Other local products include excellent olive oil, picked olives and fine DOC wines, including various Marsalas including those from the Island of Pantelleria, close to Tunisia. The province contains almost half the vineyards in Sicily.
