Often referred to as the 'Capital of Baroque', Noto is by far one of the most fascinating 18th century cities. Built after the earthquake of 1693, an excellent example of 18th century town planning, the local limestone has been burnt gold by the sun. The surrounding vineyards produce an exquisite dessert wine 'Moscato di Noto', also rich gold in colour. Noto is also home to the annual infiorata flower festival where the streets are full of mosacics made from flower petals.
