Villa overview

The main house onced lived in by noble family from Ragusa is set over 4 floors and retains many of its elegant features. The ground floor orginally 2 large horse stables have been beautifully restored into a spacious living room and triple bedroom (1 double and 1 single bed) with direct access to the courtyard. These arched stone vaults still intact with the oiginal horse troth add an eccentricity to this classic country villa. There is an additional double bedroom with direct access to the pool, large entrance room and bathroom on this level. The thick stone walls keep these rooms particuarly cool in summer and warm in cooler months.

On the first floor you wll find that the house has been kept almost exactly as it once was including the original chequered black and white flooring, antique doors and many of the orginal kitchen features. There is a large dining and living area, a very spaious and fully equipped kitchen all with high ceilings, two double bedrooms one with ensuite bathroom, a single bedroom, an additional bathroom and laundry room with washing machine. There are two balconies that look out onto the courtyard and the beautiful rolling coutryside that leads down to the coast. There is a attic room that has been made into a double bedroom.

There is a second kitchen accessed from the courtyard, ideal for when dining outside. The once stables have been transformed into a pretty country style kitchen. The courtyard is extremely pretty and perfect for watching the star lit skies and dining alfresco around the large stone table. The swimming pool is to the rear of the property and is set on one hectare of land with various trees including olive, palms and orange.

The area

Located in idyllic contryside characterised by dry stoned lanes and abundant in carob and olive trees. The magnificent Castle of Donnafugata is only a mile away, where you can take take a tour, visit its exotic gardens, get lost in the stone labyrinth or satisfy your taste buds by trying some of the local food includig fresh ricotta.

The towns of Ragusa Ibla, Modica and Scicli are an extraordinary example of Baroque architecture and at only a short drive away offer a great excuse to explore the endless mazes of mysterious, inviting and little cobbled streets.

Also nearby is Camarina, an archaeological park with a very interesting archaeological museum, on the site of an important Greek city. The sandy beaches at Punta Secca, Randello and Playa Grande are particularly nice and reachable within 15-20 minutes.

The new five star gold resort is located at only 4 miles away from La Paolina. There is also a spa and restaurant.

Siracusa, Noto (European capital of Baroque) and Catania are all within easy reach and make a perfect day trip out.
