This stretch of coast mentioned in Homer's Odyssey as 'Riviera of the Cyclops' offers beautiful and varied landscapes and places to discover, such as the pretty fishing villages of Acicastello, Acitrezza, Santa Maria la Scala and Santa Tecla.
Also nearby is Acrieale, an atmospheric little city, perched between Etna and the sea. The maze of tiny jasmine-scented streets in the centre is often used as a film set and the Baroque buildings are particularly interesting. The Baroque atmosphere is captured perfectly in Acrieale's Cathedral square. The San Sebastian church, the Zelantea art gallery and the theatre of the Puppets Opera are just some of the fabulous places to visit. Acrieale is also home to the wonderful annual carnival that attracts visitors from all over the world.
A short drive will take you to the glorious Mount Etna, bustling Catania, and Taormina with its fabulous Greek theatre. The ancient Siarcusa and Noto are also not too far away and make for a perfect day trip out.
